A person who contaminated sweets with sleeping medication and provided them to minors at a youth camp in the region has pleaded guilty to sexual offenses against two boys who were between nine and ten.

The accused was detained after eight children and one adult experienced illness at the location in mid-summer.

Yet, he denied one particular crime he was accused of, which was involving a nine-year-old child.

'Candy game'

Mary Prior KC, presenting evidence, described the criminal behavior to the court.

She explained his targets were children from difficult backgrounds who were participating in a youth camp which he ran.

Ruben played a "candy game" with the children, the prosecutor stated, in which he would enter the boys' rooms when they were preparing to sleep and tell them to ingest treats "rapidly".

She told the court the defendant had conducted this practice with the children "for many years", and minors had earlier experienced illness the next day.

She stated Ruben had been able to explain this repeatedly as the children being "overstimulated by activities", until his family member had suspicions in recently.

The prosecutor continued: "Recently" his stepson had worries about the activities, for good reason.

"They resolved" to investigate in the man's possessions."

The legal counsel said objects including lubricant, ointment and syringes were located, and his family member alerted the authorities about his concerns.

She explained Ruben went on to conduct the "candy game" with six youngsters that time - July 26th - and they were all ill the subsequent day.

"Authorities" had not arrived by that stage," she added.

The oversight body, the police conduct office, previously told that it was investigating the police response of the situation.

Mrs Prior explained the minors were having difficulty walking due to their condition, so the stepson contacted the police again.

She explained the man then engaged in the "sweet game" in a space of five minors.
